‘Riwayat’ – A Musical Tribute Concludes with Heartwarming Cheers!

Pune, January 24, 2024: Music aficionados dived deep into soulful Sitar and Vocal presentations during ‘Riwayat’ – a musical tribute in the memory of a renowned Sitarist, Ustad Hameed Khan. Presented by Suhana Basant Foundation and Triguna School of Performing Arts, ‘Riwayat’ recently took place at the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium, Ghole Road.

Dignitaries like Ustad Usman Khan, Pt. Sudhakar Chavhan, Ustad Arshad Ali Khan, Ajit Bhave; Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Cumulus Systems, Mohsin Hamid Khan were present on the occasion.

The first session witnessed 18 students of the Triguna School of Performing Arts play Sitar. They performed a Carnatic Raag ‘Malaya Marutam’, which set the tone for the evening. It was indeed a wholesome experience to listen to 18 Sitars play in sync, accompanied by Anurag Joshi on Flute and Shymal Banerjee on Sitar-Numa-Guitar. The students then performed Raag Durga through vocals.

The concluding session of the day witnessed Hindustani Vocals by Ustad Arshad Ali Khan. He performed Raagdaris and Traditional Bandishes in Raag Shuddh Kalyan. He concluded his performance with a Tarana in Raag Hameer, and a well-known Bhajan ‘Baje Re Muraliya Baje’ Ustad Arshad Ali Khan was accompanied by Amol Mali on Tabla, Gangadhar Shinde on Harmonium, and Shashwati and Shravani on Tanpura.

“The Sitar ensemble was originally composed by Late Ustad Hameed Khan of Dharwad Gharana. We have organized ‘Riwayat’ to pay our humble tribute to him,” informed Ustad Rais Bale Khan, renowned Sitarist and the President of the Suhana Basant Foundation. Sumit Rekhi played the anchor for the event.
