Sinhagad Road, 6th July 2026: Continuous heavy rainfall on Monday triggered a road cave-in and the collapse of a retaining wall near Sudatta Sankul on Hingane–Sinhagad Road, posing a serious threat to motorists and residents in the area. The incident occurred after incessant rain weakened the road surface and the supporting structure along the roadside.

Following the collapse, the affected stretch was identified as hazardous, prompting an immediate response from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Civic officials rushed to the site to assess the damage, barricade the area, and begin emergency measures to prevent any further mishaps. The unstable portions of the retaining wall were removed, while the concerned engineering departments initiated restoration work and a structural assessment of the damaged section.

The incident is one of several rain-related emergencies reported across Pune on Monday as the city continued to receive heavy monsoon showers. Authorities acted swiftly to ensure that commuters and nearby residents remained safe. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

PMC Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure said the administration acted immediately after receiving information about the collapse.

“Citizen safety is our highest priority. As soon as we were informed about the road cave-in and the collapse of the retaining wall near Sudatta Sankul, instructions were issued to the concerned departments to reach the spot immediately and undertake all necessary emergency measures,” she said.

She further added, “We have directed officials to ensure that there is no loss of life or property. The dangerous portion has been secured, restoration work is underway, and the administration will continue monitoring the site until it is completely safe for the public.”

The PMC has appealed to motorists to avoid the affected stretch if possible, follow traffic diversions, and cooperate with officials until repair and stabilisation work is completed.
