Rotary Club of Pune Kharadi Organizes ‘Road Safety Resolution’ Campaign on Republic Day

Wagholi, 30th January 2025: On the occasion of Republic Day, the Rotary Club of Pune Kharadi launched a ‘Road Safety Resolution’ campaign to raise awareness about the growing concerns of road accidents. Students from BJS College actively participated in the initiative, held at Kesanand Road, Wagholi.
The program was inaugurated in the presence of Rotary Club President Dhanya Narayanan, Secretary Colonel Kulbir, PI Director Neeta Razdan Kaul, Ashwani Singhal, IPP Megha Sharma, Vikas Harjani, Nirmala and Usha Mani. Assistant Police Inspector Gajanan Prahlad Jadhav addressed the gathering, offering valuable guidance on road safety measures.
India records a high number of road accidents annually. According to a report by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, over 4.5 lakh accidents occurred across the country in 2023, leading to more than 1.5 lakh fatalities. The Wagholi-Kesanand Road, along with other areas of Pune, has witnessed a surge in accidents, making road safety a critical issue.
In the Wagholi region alone, statistics reveal an average of 15-20 minor accidents and 5-7 serious accidents per month. Major causes include over-speeding, traffic violations, and lack of helmet and seatbelt usage.
During the campaign, students carried posters and placards with messages such as “Road Safety, Life Protection” to encourage responsible driving. Speaking about the initiative, Rotary Club President Dhanya Narayanan emphasized the importance of responsible citizenship:
“Republic Day is not just about celebrating our rights but also about fulfilling our responsibilities. Following road safety rules is a duty we all must uphold.”
Assistant Police Inspector Gajanan Jadhav highlighted the importance of following speed limits, avoiding drunk driving, and using helmets and seat belts. He urged citizens to adopt safe driving habits to prevent accidents.
The Rotary Club of Pune Kharadi announced plans to expand road safety campaigns in Wagholi and nearby areas. Future programs will involve local authorities, schools, and colleges to promote safer roads through community participation.
At the end of the event, students were awarded certificates for their participation, and citizens took a pledge to prioritize road safety in their daily lives.
