Pune 8th January 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Pune Division, recorded significant increases across key safety and security initiatives in 2025 compared to 2024, according to official data released by the division.

In child rescue operations under “Operation Nanhe Farishte,” 423 children who were missing, separated from families or found travelling alone were rescued and reunited through the Child Welfare Committee in 2025, marking a 36.45% rise from 310 rescues in 2024.

Under “Operation Amanat,” the RPF returned lost passenger belongings worth approximately ₹74.55 lakh to 237 passengers in 2025. In 2024, belongings worth around ₹45.75 lakh were returned to 189 passengers, reflecting a 25.39% increase in value of recovered property.

Women’s safety drives reported a major escalation in enforcement. Under “Operation Mahila Suraksha,” action was taken against 1,478 persons found travelling unauthorizedly in women’s coaches in 2025, compared to 418 in 2024. The fines collected rose from ₹91,250 to ₹5,48,850, registering a 253.58% increase.

Passenger luggage theft detection also showed notable improvement. Under passenger safety initiatives led by the Tejaswini team, 118 theft cases were detected in 2025 and 149 accused were arrested. In 2024, 65 cases were detected and 86 accused were arrested, indicating an 81.53% rise in case detection.

The force also reported higher life-saving interventions on platforms and tracks. Under “Operation Jeevan Raksha,” 12 passengers’ lives were saved in 2025 compared to 7 in 2024, reflecting a 71.42% increase.

Additionally, under the “Meri Saheli” initiative, aimed at assisting women travelling alone, RPF teams attended 967 trains in 2025 and reached out to 21,115 women passengers for safety assistance and guidance.

Speaking on the division’s performance, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Priyanka Sharma said, “Women and child safety and security is the mission of Pune RPF. We are making special efforts to ensure the same and our last year performance is a reflection of it. For the year 2026, we will have enhanced focus on passenger security, as Pune Division is in the process of introducing many technological solutions.”

The data indicates year-on-year growth in child rescues, lost property recovery, women’s safety enforcement, theft detection and emergency life-saving efforts within the Pune Division during 2025.
