Pune, 30th July 2024: The traffic police have initiated a campaign to impound both four-wheelers and two-wheelers with 50 or more unpaid traffic fines. As part of this initiative, 44 such vehicles have already been seized. Most such vehicles belong to persons working with food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that there are currently 21 vehicles with over 100 pending traffic challans, and an additional 988 vehicles with between 50 and 99 unpaid fines. “We have identified these vehicles and intend to apprehend their owners to ensure the fines are settled. If they fail to comply, the vehicles will be impounded.”

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil emphasized the coordinated effort, saying, “Our traffic divisions have been provided with the list of offending vehicles. Collectively, these vehicles have accumulated fines totaling Rs 3.18 crore.”

Patil further noted, “Tourist and commercial vehicles with over 50 unpaid fines will be targeted. If the owners do not pay the fines, their transport permits will be revoked with the assistance of the RTO. Private vehicles with over 50 unpaid fines will also be seized, and the owners’ driving licenses will be suspended if the fines remain unpaid.”
