Rs 32,523 Crore Sanctioned for 220 Development Projects in Pune Metropolitan Region: CM Fadnavis
Nagpur, 11th December 2025: The Maharashtra government has sanctioned ₹32,523 crore for 220 development projects in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced during the fifth meeting of the Pune Metropolitan Planning Committee at Vidhan Bhavan on Thursday.
Highlighting the rapid urban expansion of Pune, Fadnavis said the state government is prioritising the strengthening of civic infrastructure to meet the growing population’s needs. He also issued clear directives that road development planning must be completed before drafting any city development plans.
Structure Plan to Guide Future Growth
The Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare the region’s Structure Plan within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring that future population growth and urbanisation patterns are properly addressed. He emphasised that development responsibility for any area should not be split among multiple authorities. A single authority must oversee development for improved efficiency and coordination, he said.
Fadnavis directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take charge of development planning for the 23 villages merged into its jurisdiction in June 2021. He also recommended assessing the feasibility of preparing the Pune Growth Hub Development Plan through the state-run MITRA agency.
Integrated Township and Infrastructure Push
Reviewing ongoing township planning schemes in Pune, Fadnavis instructed officials to expedite the Man–Mahalunge Township Planning Project. Currently, 15 Integrated Township Planning Schemes are in progress, and he stressed strict adherence to timelines to avoid delays.
He further directed the authorities to open the flyover near Savitribai Phule Pune University for public use immediately, without waiting for a formal inauguration. In addition, he called for preparing a Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Pune in consultation with all members of the Metropolitan Planning Committee.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, MLAs, senior bureaucrats, and Pune Metropolitan Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, who presented an overview of PMR’s development projects.
