RTE Admission Deadline Extended Until April 1 in Maharashtra

Pune, 28th March 2025: The School Education Department has extended the deadline for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act until April 1. Initially set for March 10, the new deadline offers another opportunity for students on the waiting list to secure admission.
Under the 25% RTE quota, the admission process was conducted in 8,863 schools across the state, providing free education to eligible students. This year, a total of 3,05,151 applications were received for 1,09,087 seats.
However, many parents raised concerns about the unavailability of nearby school options, leading to a lower-than-expected number of confirmed admissions. In response, authorities decided to extend the deadline for students in the first phase of the waiting list.
Challenges in RTE Admissions
Many parents reported difficulties during the RTE admission process, stating that their children were not allotted seats in nearby schools. Due to this, several parents, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, declined admission offers. Parents have urged the government to improve the school selection system and ensure better allocation through an enhanced computerized process.
Final Deadline and Next Steps
With the extended deadline until April 1, parents now have another chance to secure admission for their children. The School Education Department has urged parents to submit the required documents at their allotted school within the given timeframe. If a school is deemed unsuitable, parents will have to wait for the second phase of admissions.
The department has made it clear that April 1 is the final deadline, and no further admissions from the waiting list will be considered beyond this date. Parents are advised to complete the admission process on time to ensure their child’s education. For further assistance, they can contact the District Education Office.
