RTO Increase Action Against School Buses in Pune, 178 Buses Fined For Violation

Pune 22nd July 2023: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has increased action against the school buses as the academic year 2023-24 begins. Dedicated flying squads have been formed to check the school buses and take action against those found violating the rules.

According to officials, a total of 709 school buses were checked by the RTO’s flying squads in Pune between July 1 and July 10 and action was taken against 178 such vehicles for various violations. A total of 35 of these vehicles were impounded while a fine of Rs 29.75 lakhs was recovered.

The local police and RTO officials earlier conducted several meetings with the school bus associations and schools to appeal the concerned stakeholders to get their documents completed and follow all the traffic rules to avoid action. A website was also launched to streamline the work of the School Bus Transport Committee and the schools were appealed to register on the website https://schoolbussafetypune.org.

According to officials, a total of 5,731 school buses have already registered on the website and more are being registered as they are being encouraged by the education department and RTO officials during their drive.
