‘Run for Soldiers, Run with Soldiers’ Marks 53rd Vijay Diwas in Pune

Pune, 16th December 2023: In commemoration of the 53rd Vijay Diwas, Headquarters Southern Command of the Indian Army today organised ‘Southern Star Vijay Run 2023’ at Pune Race Course. The theme for the Vijay Run was ‘RUN FOR SOLDIERS, RUN WITH SOLDIERS’. The run was organised as a mark of respect and pay homage to our brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 war. Participants from all walks of life participated, symbolising the solidarity with soldiers & martyrs of 1971 Operations.

In addition, a 53-hour run was also conducted commemorating 53rd Vijay Diwas, the event started at 0300 am on 14 Dec and finished on 16 Dec 23. It was indeed a remarkable display of endurance, symbolizing the enduring spirit of the momentous occasion.

The Vijay Run was flagged off in Pune by Lt Gen AK Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, Army Commander, Southern Command, who himself ran 5 Kilometres with the participants. The event also included simultaneous run of 19 Locations across 10 states in India to include Mumbai, Chennai, Secunderabad, Jodhpur, Bhopal etc the same event kicked off. A strength of approximately 50,000 participated in this monumental event from all sections of society.

Attendees were treated to the mesmerizing performances of military bands, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our armed forces. Skilled soldiers enthralled the audience with their breath-taking Gatka display, demonstrating their energetic art form pumping up the atmosphere while promoting fitness among the participants. One of the highlights of the event was the Army Helicopter Fly past, which left the spectators in awe. Furthermore, a lively DJ music session complemented by a talented jazz band & Lezim dancers setting the rhythm for day.
