Ruparelia, Lakshya at Pune Mayors Trophy Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament
Pune, 24th August 2026: World Junior Rank no.8 Dev Ruparelia and World Junior Rank No. 421 Lakshya Rajesh will lead players in boys and girls event from 9 countries at Pune Mayors Trophy Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament in the memory of Late Sushant Chipalkatti
which will be organized by Poona District Metropolitan Badminton Association under the auspices of BWF, BA, BAI and MBA to be played at the P. E. Society’s Modern PDMBA Sports Complex, Shivajinagar from 25th August to 30th August 2026.
CA Ranjeet Natu, Hon. Gen Secretary of the Poona District Metropolitan Badminton Association said that, This prestigious tournament, held in memory of the late Sushant Chipalkatti, has become a key fixture in the international junior badminton calendar. The event, which is gaining popularity worldwide, will see players from around 9 countries this year,
A total of 304 players from 9 countries including India, USA, UAE, Netherland, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Malaysia, Bhutan will be seen in action during this event. The tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of the world’s best young badminton talent.
The qualifying rounds will be played on 25th August 2026 . The Main Rounds will on 26th August while finals will be played on 30th August 2026. The event will be an opportunity for the Indian Boys and girls to earn valuable points playing in home conditions. The prize money for the event will be USD 15000. The Singles winner will get $1208, the runners up get $724.
In previous editions, renowned Indian Badminton players such as Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Shrikant Kidambi, Satwik Sairaj, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Chirag Shetty have graced the courts, showcasing their talent and setting the stage for their future successes. The tournament will feature competitions in Under 19 boys and Girls singles and doubles categories, Mix Doubles categories. As a part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) circuit, it offers participants an opportunity to earn valuable ranking points and gain international experience. Mr. Upul Gamlath from Sri Lanka has been appointed as chief referee while Uday Sane from India as deputy chief referee for this event, he added.
