Jammu and Kashmir, India, 5th August 2023: As a precautionary measure in light of the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, officials have announced the suspension of the Amarnath Yatra from the Jammu base camp on Saturday. Jammu Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa stated that the yatra will not take place on that day.

On Friday, the 33rd batch of Amarnath Yatris, consisting of 1,181 pilgrims, departed from the base camp to visit the holy cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas. Strict security arrangements were in place to ensure their safety.

Since July 1, when the 62-day Yatra commenced in the valley, more than 4.5 lakh devotees have paid their respects at the shrine.

Given the significance of the occasion, security measures have been intensified in the city. It was on August 5, 2019, that the Centre revoked the provisions of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequently, the state was reorganized into Union territories, namely Jammu and Kashmir (with a legislature) and Ladakh.
