Sale of sex toys in lockdown phase is on the rise, Pune among top cities

Pune, 25 July 2020: In a country like India, the topic of sex is still considered as a taboo but since the COVID-19 lockdown, the sale of sex toys has increased. This sector has observed a rise of 65 per cent in the last few months.

The trends and sale in sex products in the Indian market have been captured by ThatsPersonal.com. They have done an analysis named ‘India Uncovered: Insightful Analysis of Sex Products Trends in India’.

The analysis was carried out by observing over 22 million visitors and the 3, 35,000 products which were bought online.

As per the survey, Maharashtra emerged first in the ranking of sale of sex products and toys followed by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Amongst metro cities, Mumbai ranks the first in the sale of sex toys followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi. Pune city comes under the top eight cities in the sale of sex toys.

Uttar Pradesh holds the record of maximum male buyers and Surat has the maximum appetite with buyers spending Rs 3,900 per order placed.

CEO of ThatsPersonal.com Samir Saraiya said that the market for sex toys is rapidly growing in India. People are becoming more open and have begun to shed their inhibitions and are becoming more open to experimentation to try out new products.

Women are also becoming more open to experimentation. In Vijaywada, Jamshedpur, Belgaum and Vadodara the ratio of female buyers is more than male buyers.

The consumer market for sex toys is between the age groups of 25-34 while the maximum time spent on the site consists of people between the age group of 18-25. According to the analysis, most people surf the site for buying condoms but end up browsing and purchasing other products.

The survey also says that the purchase of pleasure products helps in saving strained marriages in 33 per cent cases.
