Pune, September 12, 2020: The ongoing first year junior college (FYJC) admissions have been postponed until further notice after the Supreme court ruled that socially and educationally backward class (SEBC) reservation cannot be implemented in education and jobs at present. This has caused a delay in the 11th standard admission procedure.
Reacting to the order given by the Supreme court, Vikas Pasalkar of Sambhaji Brigade criticized the decisions of central and state governments, stating, “Reservation should be given to Maratha community because we have fallen victim to the failure of the Central and State governments, and if the decision isn’t taken soon in this regard, the Maratha community’s youth will go on to the path of Naxalism.”
Meanwhile, in a press conference today at Patrakar Bhavan, Pasalkar reminded of the time when the Maratha community held peaceful rallies across the state demanding reservation. Also, about the time when almost 50 people sacrificed for reservation. “When it comes to the reservation, did the state government fail to present its case in the court? We demand that the state government should file a reconsideration petition in the next three-four days and come up with a good case”, he added.
“Our protest is not against any particular political party, but against all the political parties. The triple talaq law, which has been pending in the country for many years, Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the Ram Mandir issue can be resolved. So why can’t the issue of reservation of the Maratha community be solved?” he posed this question.
“We will be sending a letter to all the MLAs in the state. But if there is no action taken, we will protest in huge numbers”, summed Pasalkar.
