Satara, 23rd July 2025: In a disturbing incident near Satara city, an 18-year-old boy was arrested on Monday after a video surfaced showing him holding a knife to a schoolgirl’s neck and threatening her in broad daylight. The minor girl, aged 16, later filed a formal complaint, following which the police registered a case and launched an investigation.

The incident occurred in the Karanje area, where the boy—identified as a neighbor of the girl’s family—reportedly confronted her on the street, brandished a knife, and grabbed her by the neck. As captured in the video, the girl and her mother pleaded with the youth to back down, even as he tried to charge at bystanders who attempted to intervene.

Local residents eventually overpowered the boy, disarmed him, and handed him over to the police. The crowd’s intervention also resulted in minor injuries to two individuals during the scuffle. The girl was rescued safely and did not suffer any physical injuries.

“The accused was taken into custody and sent for a medical examination,” said Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi. “We had earlier issued a warning to him after the girl’s family approached us with a complaint. However, he continued to pursue the girl, trying to pressure her into accepting his proposal.”

According to the police, the girl is a student at a school in Satara city, which has also filed a complaint regarding the incident. The accused, a Class XII student, is facing multiple charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including abduction, criminal intimidation, and causing hurt.

He was produced before the Satara court on Tuesday and has been remanded in police custody until Wednesday for further interrogation.
SP Doshi further added, “We are verifying if the accused had harassed the girl in the past or if there were earlier instances that went unreported. We are treating this case with utmost seriousness.”

The case is being investigated by Shahupuri police station.
