Pune, 17th February 2025: The Maharashtra Government has submitted all required documents and information to the Supreme Court regarding Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservations in the state. As a result, a verdict on this matter is expected soon, according to Revenue Minister and BJP State President Chandrashekar Bawankule.

Speaking to reporters yesterday after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organizational meeting in Pune, Bawankule stated that the government is prepared to hold local body elections immediately if the Supreme Court issues such an order. He even suggested the possibility of these elections taking place in April.

Bawankule expressed confidence in the ruling alliance’s electoral prospects, citing their previous success in the state assembly elections where they won 237 seats. He predicted similar victories in the upcoming Municipal Corporation, Zilla Parishad, and Panchayat Samiti elections.

Addressing concerns about the discontinuation of government schemes, Bawankule assured that no programs would be terminated. He emphasized that the current administration is focused on introducing new initiatives rather than ending existing ones. The minister stated that separate budget allocations have been made for each scheme to ensure their continuation.

Bawankule also discussed the BJP’s ongoing membership drive in Maharashtra. The party aims to reach 1.5 crore members and 3 lakh active members in the state. He reported that 1.16 crore members have already been registered, with plans to achieve the remaining target by February 28.
