Senior Journalist Asseem Sheikh Passes Away in Pune
Camp, 5th January 2026: Asseem Sheikh (55), a senior journalist with the Pune edition of The Times of India, passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. His last rites were performed at the Sachapir Muslim cemetery near Tandel Masjid in the Camp area. Sheikh is survived by a brother and two sisters.
Known for his in-depth reporting on crime, law and order, the judicial system and issues related to the Pune Cantonment, Sheikh had built a strong reputation in the city’s journalism circles. He began his career as a reporter at the age of 19 and went on to work with newspapers such as Mumbai Mid Day and The Maharashtra Herald.
For the past 18 years, he was associated with The Times of India, Pune edition, where his reporting and domain expertise earned him wide respect among peers and officials alike.
His demise has been widely mourned in the media fraternity, with colleagues recalling him as a dedicated journalist with a deep understanding of his beats and a strong commitment to the profession.
