Shama Mohammd, Who Called Rohit Sharma Fat, Changed Her Tone
Mumbai, 10th March 2025: As yesterday, on March 9th, India made history by winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, knocking out team New Zealand by four wickets. There is an absolute environment of celebration throughout the country. Many leaders, politicians, sportspeople, and citizens congratulated Team India on this victory and their performance in it.
Congress leader Shama Mohammad commended India on Champions Trophy’s victory; who did raise the question of team India’s captain Rohit Sharma’s fitness & captaincy a few days back. After the victory she saluted Captain Rohit Sharma & also congratulated Shreyas Iyer. On the great victory of Team India’s Champions Trophy 2025, she expressed on X, stating, “Congratulations to team India for their stupendous performance in winning Champions Trophy 2025. Hats off to Captain Rohit Sharma, who led from the front with a brilliant 76 runs, setting a tone for a victory. Also, salute to Shreyash Iyer & KL Rahul who played crucial knocks, steering & leading India toward glorious victory of Champions Trophy 2025.”
Shama Mohammad not only called Rohit Sharma ‘fat’ as a player but also questioned Hitman’s captaincy. Afterward, her statement faced widespread criticism. The BJP strongly attacked the Congress over her remarks. Even the Congress distanced itself from her statement, warning of being cautious in the future. As the controversy grew extensively, Shama Mohammd deleted her post.
Aside from political parties & civilians, the BCCI also objected to her remarks.
The BCCI secretary, while speaking to the news, said “Rohit is our captain, and such statements against him are very inappropriate.” He further added “ It is unfortunate for a person holding a responsible position to make such remarks on our captain, especially at a time when Team India is playing in the ICC tournament & preparing for the semi-final match.
