“Sharad Pawar Go Back” Echoes in Maratha Reservation Protest In Pune
Pune, 24th October 2023: Political unrest has surged in the Maharashtra state as the debate over the Maratha reservation continues to escalate. Maratha community members across various villages have taken a stand, vowing not to allow any political leaders to traverse their territories until the Maratha community secures its reservation.
Today, the convoy of veteran politician Sharad Pawar was obstructed near Alka Chowk in Pune. Demonstrators from the Maratha community blocked Pawar’s convoy, displaying posters with the message “Sharad Pawar Go Back.” The police swiftly intervened to disperse the protesters and clear the path for Pawar’s convoy.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar inaugurated the sugarcane crushing season at the Vitthalrao Shinde Cooperative Sugar Factory in Solapur district on Monday. During the event, it was reported that Maratha protesters displayed black flags to express their discontent.
A farmers’ dialogue meeting was convened, during which Ajit Pawar commenced his address. However, as soon as he began speaking, activists from the Maratha Kranti Morcha unfurled black flags in protest. In response, the police detained one of the activists.
The state is currently witnessing an agitation regarding the issue of Maratha reservation. Manoj Jarange, a prominent Maratha activist, had issued a deadline for the government to make a decision on reservation, which expires today. In response to the government’s inaction, Jarange declared his intention to embark on a stringent indefinite fast starting from the 25th. Additionally, discussions are underway to impose bans on political leaders in numerous villages across the state.
