Pune, 31st July 2026: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has reportedly resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with multiple reports indicating that he submitted his resignation to the party leadership citing personal reasons. While an official statement from the BJP is still awaited, speculation over his exit intensified after he removed all references to the party from his X (formerly Twitter) profile.

Poonawalla’s updated bio now describes him as an “author, columnist, political commentator, lawyer and humanitarian,” with no mention of his role as the BJP’s national spokesperson. The change quickly sparked discussions on social media, as he has been one of the party’s most recognisable television faces in recent years.

According to reports, Poonawalla has informed the BJP leadership of his decision and cited personal reasons for stepping away from the party. However, neither Poonawalla nor the BJP has publicly confirmed the resignation or commented on the reasons behind the move.

Poonawalla joined the BJP in 2021 after previously being associated with the Congress. He rose to prominence as one of the BJP’s national spokespersons, regularly representing the party in television debates and press briefings on a wide range of political issues.

With no official confirmation yet from the party, questions remain over Poonawalla’s future political plans and whether he will continue to remain active in public life independently.
