SIFF Commends Pune Police for Swift Action in Kondhwa False Rape Case; Demands Legal Reforms to Prevent Misuse of Laws
Pune, 14th July 2025: The Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) has commended the Pune City Police for swiftly uncovering a false rape allegation in the Kondhwa area, preventing the wrongful arrest of an innocent man. The case, filed by a 22-year-old woman, was found to be fabricated and resolved within just 24 hours, prompting SIFF to launch a formal letter campaign to Police Commissioner Shri Amitesh Kumar, urging further legal action and systemic reform.
SIFF, a nationally recognized men’s rights NGO advocating for gender-neutral laws, praised the Pune Police for their professional handling of the case. The false rape allegation, which involved alleged support from a professor who reportedly advised the complainant, was found to have no merit during the police investigation.
“The police’s quick action protected an innocent man from unjust incarceration and public humiliation,” SIFF’s letter noted, calling the case a model of how prompt law enforcement can uphold justice in sensitive matters.
SIFF Demands Strict Action Against False Allegations
In its communication to the police, SIFF urged the invocation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 229, 230, and 250, which deal with giving or fabricating false evidence, and Section 182A of the Maharashtra Shakti Act, which criminalizes maliciously false rape or acid attack complaints. The organization argued that enforcing these provisions consistently is crucial to deter misuse and rebuild trust in the justice system.
“Section 182A exists, but enforcement is rare. This gives free passage to people who misuse laws intended to protect real victims,” said Sameer Goel, SIFF’s National Coordinator.
Citing data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), SIFF claimed that 74% of all rape cases filed in India are eventually found to be false, often stemming from personal disputes or vengeful motives. In 2022 alone, 122,724 men died by suicide in India, with over 65% of cases linked to matrimonial and relationship stress.
The group warns that unchecked misuse of protective laws has led to social stigma, loss of employment, financial ruin, and even suicides among the falsely accused.
“When the system fails to punish those who abuse legal protections, it contributes to a climate of fear and injustice. These aren’t just statistics—these are destroyed lives,” said Sagar Gunthal, SIFF Maharashtra counsellor.
SIFF voiced deep concern over provisions in the BNS 69, which allegedly criminalize men for ending relationships while allowing women to do so freely. The group warned that such laws could open the “floodgates” for false complaints aimed at personal vendettas and extortion.
