SIMS INTERNATIONAL LECTURE SERIES HOSTS SESSION ON CASE STUDY AS A METHOD OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

Pune, 28th January 2025: The International Lecture Series at Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Pune, initiated by Brig. (Dr.) Rajiv Divekar, Director of SIMS & Dean of the Faculty of Management at SIU, continues to serve as a dynamic platform for students to engage with global thought leaders and gain valuable insights into contemporary business.
On January 28, 2025, a guest lecture titled “Case Study as a Method of Qualitative Research” was conducted for MBA students. This session aimed to enhance students’ understanding of qualitative research approaches, focusing on the significance of case studies in business and academic research.
The guest speaker, Dr. Ruwan Abeysekara, Professor in the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, shared his expertise in financial research and case study methodology. He provided a comprehensive overview of the role of case studies in exploring complex business phenomena, illustrating how this qualitative research method aids in deeper analysis and decision-making.
The lecture emphasized key aspects such as designing an effective case study, selecting appropriate data sources, and ensuring research validity. Dr. Abeysekara highlighted the significance of case studies in understanding real-world business problems and demonstrated best practices in qualitative research.
Using examples from his experiences, Dr. Abeysekara guided students on how to develop a structured case study, analyze findings critically, and apply insights to business management scenarios.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Hemlata Gaikwad, Associate Professor at SIMS, Pune, who ensured seamless execution and facilitated engaging discussions. The session provided students with practical knowledge on qualitative research methodologies and reinforced the importance of analytical thinking in academic and business contexts.
