Pune, 3rd July 2026: The Bharati Vidyapeeth Police have registered a criminal case against the management of Sinhgad Education Society for allegedly withholding and misappropriating ₹5.06 crore in salaries due to 27 teachers over the past five-and-a-half years.

The case has been registered against the society’s founder Maruti Navale, secretary Sunanda Maruti Navale, vice-president Rachana Navale-Ashtekar, vice-president Rohit Maruti Navale, accounts department officials Sanjay More and Sharad Jarad, along with other trustees. They have been booked on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

According to the police, the complaint was filed by a teacher of Sinhgad Springdale School, who has been working at the institution since April 2020. The complainant alleged that she was not paid her salary on a regular basis, resulting in pending dues of ₹19.36 lakh. The complaint further states that the cumulative unpaid salaries of 27 teachers amount to ₹5.06 crore.

The affected teachers reportedly made repeated representations to the institution’s management and approached various authorities seeking payment of their dues. However, despite continuous follow-ups, the issue remained unresolved, prompting them to approach the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police.

After conducting a preliminary inquiry, police registered an FIR against the accused under sections related to criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Manasing Patil. Police will examine the institution’s financial records, salary registers, and other accounting documents to determine the alleged diversion and misappropriation of funds. Officials have indicated that further facts may emerge as the investigation progresses.

The case has sparked concern over financial accountability in private educational institutions and the prolonged delay in payment of teachers’ salaries. The investigation is ongoing.
