Smuggling Crackdown: Pune Customs Seizes Contraband Cigarettes and E-cigarettes Valued at Rs 51 Lakh
Pune, 22nd May 2023: The Pune unit of the Customs Department has taken decisive action against the illegal smuggling of foreign brand cigarettes and e-cigarettes from China and other countries, officials have announced.
Acting on valuable intelligence inputs, the Pune Customs Department conducted targeted raids on various establishments, including shops and associated godowns in Kothrud, Baner, and Sinhagad Road on May 19. The search operation yielded significant results as officials successfully seized a large quantity of foreign brand cigarettes and e-cigarettes valued at Rs 51 lakh. It was revealed that these items had been smuggled into Pune through unlawful means, originating from countries such as China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The seized items included well-known foreign-branded cigarettes and e-cigarette brands, highlighting the extensive scale of the illegal smuggling operation. Furthermore, the confiscated e-cigarettes were specifically manufactured and imported from China, exposing the country’s involvement in this illicit trade.
