Pune, December 16, 2020: The National Highways Authority (NHA) and the police have decided to take measures to curb speeding on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass. It has been observed that most of the accidents are due to speeding. The bypass road has recently been surveyed from the new Katraj tunnel to the bridge over the Mutha river in the Warje area. The speed limit in this area has been reduced from 80 kmph to 60 kmph.

In order to reduce the speed of heavy vehicles in this area, work has been undertaken to install speed bumper (rumbler strip) and out up information boards in accident-prone areas. There were six serious accidents on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass last month. After crossing Khedshivapur, heavy vehicles going to Pune and Mumbai pass through the new Katraj tunnel. After crossing the valley bridge, there is a steep descent to Narhe area of Sinhagad road area. Serious accidents are taking place due to brake failure of vehicles on steep slopes.

The area was recently inspected by the NHA, the Regional Transport Office as well as the police to take measures. According to the survey, the speed limit has been raised to 60 km per hour to reduce the speed of vehicles in the area. The work of installing rumbler strips will be undertaken by inspecting the bypass. This will reduce the speed of vehicles and reduce the number of accidents, stated the police.

The speed limit has been reduced from 80 km per hour to 60 km per hour to curb the speed of vehicles on the Bawalan road from Warje bridge to Mutha river. Police have initiated action against the drivers of heavy vehicles on this route to prevent accidents. The police have suggested some measures to reduce the number of accidents on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass. Accordingly, measures have been taken to address this issue.
