SPPU’s SET Exam Draws Overwhelming Participation in Pune and Beyond
Pune, 8th April 2024: The State Eligibility Test (SET) organized by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for the Assistant Professor position took place on Sunday (7th April) across various centres in Maharashtra and Goa, including Pune. An impressive 85 % of the registered candidates participated in the examination, with the highest number of examinees, totalling 17,245 students, appearing at the Pune centre.
This SET examination, akin to the National Eligibility Test (NET), serves as a crucial assessment for aspiring Assistant Professors. It was conducted at 289 examination centres across 17 cities in Maharashtra and Goa. Last year, a total of 1,19,000 candidates registered for the exam, while this year witnessed a slight increase, with 1,28,243 candidates registering. Out of these, 1,09,154 candidates actively took part in the examination, demonstrating the continued significance and popularity of this examination among aspiring academics.
NET is facilitated online by the National Testing Agency (NTA), occurring twice a year in June and December across two sessions. Similarly, there’s a growing appeal for SET to adopt a biannual schedule. Notably, this year’s SET examination marked the final instance of the traditional written format. With the forthcoming transition to an online mode, candidates are keenly observing whether the SPPU will opt for a biannual exam schedule. This shift to online testing prompts considerations regarding the frequency and structure of future SET examinations.
