Start of E-Bike Taxi Service in Pune and Mumbai Delayed Due to Proposal Errors

Pune, 28th August 2025: The launch of e-bike taxi services in Pune and Mumbai has been delayed as the Transport Department has found errors in the proposals submitted by four interested companies. The department has canceled the initial submissions and asked the companies to submit revised proposals, which will take additional time before operations can begin.

The Transport Department had approved the introduction of e-bike taxis in Maharashtra about six months ago, and draft guidelines were prepared over a month-long period. Recently, four companies submitted their proposals for aggregator licenses, showing a positive intent to start the service. However, officials found errors in all submissions, leading to their cancellation.

“After receiving the revised proposals, the documents will be scrutinized carefully. If everything is in order, the proposal will be forwarded to the State Transport Authority for final approval. Only then will the companies receive the aggregator licenses required to start operations in Mumbai and Pune,” said Vivek Bhimanwar, Transport Commissioner, Mumbai.

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of each district will set the fare for e-bike taxis, considering operational costs and revenue requirements. The Pune RTO will first determine the per-kilometer rate for e-bike taxis in the city and propose it in an RTA meeting. The final rate will be decided by the RTA chairman in consultation with other members, and fares may vary from city to city.

While the four companies have shown interest in introducing e-bike taxi services, the exact timeline for launch remains uncertain and depends on the approval process by the State Transport Authority.
