State Clears Rs 47.65cr For Pune CCTV Project
Pune, 24th October 2026: The Maharashtra government has approved a payment of Rs 47.65 crore, including GST, for Pune’s CCTV surveillance project, with Rs 50.31 lakh withheld over the non-installation of 104 buffer poles.
A government resolution issued on October 22 cleared the payment to the executing agency for camera installations and video-footage infrastructure at the data centre and disaster recovery centre.
The project originally envisaged 1,443 poles, including 1,238 designated poles across 1,007 locations and 205 buffer poles. While all designated poles have been installed, only 101 buffer poles are in place, taking the total to 1,339.
After deducting the amount withheld for the pending work, the approved payment stands at Rs 40.38 crore, excluding GST, senior home department officials said.
Additional chief secretary (home) Manisha Mhaiskar said on Friday that the expansion was undertaken at the Pune police’s request. The additional cameras are expected to improve surveillance in public spaces, strengthen crime prevention and enable quicker responses to incidents.
Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said he had raised the issue of expediting the fund release at a meeting earlier this month.
Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole said the approval would help complete the remaining work and strengthen the city’s surveillance network.
The CCTV project covering Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad was conceived after the August 1, 2012, Pune serial bomb blasts.
