Pune, 25th December 2024: Marathi Language Department Minister Uday Samant announced that the second World Marathi Conference will be held in Pune over three days, from 27th February to 1st March 2025. The minister also directed officials to begin preparations for the event, which aims to promote and celebrate the Marathi language.

Samant made this announcement during a review meeting of the Marathi Language Department, held in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Joint Secretary Namdev Bhosale, Vice President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad Bhausaheb Bhoir, and other department officials such as Under Secretary Nitin Dangare and Director of State Marathi Vikas Sanstha Dr. Shamakant Devade.

During the meeting, Samant emphasized the importance of seeking additional funding from the central government for Marathi language initiatives. He proposed sending requests to the central authorities, similar to the states that have secured classical language status for their regional languages. He also suggested inviting Marathi language organizations from across the country to contribute to the cause and share their ideas.

Samant further recommended that the Marathi Language Department publish materials in all colleges and work towards establishing a Marathi language research center in the Marathi departments of universities.

In addition to these initiatives, Samant proposed organizing a women’s literature conference at the state level and a youth literature conference. Another exciting idea discussed was the creation of a ‘Kavitanche Gaon’ or ‘Village of Poems,’ a concept that could help bring Marathi literature and poetry to the forefront in communities across the state.

These efforts are part of the state government’s ongoing commitment to promoting the Marathi language and culture. The upcoming World Marathi Conference in Pune is expected to be a major event, bringing together language enthusiasts, writers, and cultural leaders from across the globe.
