Survey for Phaltan-Pandharpur 109 km New Rail Line Project Completed; DPR Prepared

Pune/New Delhi, 1st April 2026: The survey for the Phaltan–Pandharpur new railway line project in Maharashtra has been completed and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared, the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply to an unstarred question.
The proposed Phaltan-Pandharpur railway line project will cover a distance of 109 kilometres and is aimed at improving railway connectivity in parts of Maharashtra, particularly in Satara and Solapur districts.
According to the reply submitted in Parliament, the project is expected to improve rail connectivity for passengers and facilitate transportation of agricultural produce and goods from the region to major markets. The new line will connect Phaltan to Pandharpur and link the region to the broader railway network through existing railway junctions.
Pandharpur is a major pilgrimage destination in Maharashtra and the proposed railway line is expected to provide improved rail access for pilgrims travelling to the town from different parts of the state.
The railway line is also expected to support movement of agricultural goods from the region, which is known for agricultural production, by providing an additional transport route for bulk goods.
The update regarding the project was provided in Parliament as part of information related to railway infrastructure development works in Maharashtra.
