·        Shortlisted for Asian Games to be held at Jakarta in 2018

It was indeed a very proud moment when 23 year old Ms. Priti Tiwari, a PGDM student of Suryadatta Institute of Management, bagged a silver medal in  the Open National Jiu Jitsu Championship 2017 held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, recently. It was a serious competition amongst 20 states, and Priti was representing Maharashtra state. “I have also been shortlisted for the Asian Games that would be held at Jakarta in 2018. Gold and silver medalists get a direct entry to the Asian Games”, beams Priti.

“Ji Jitsu is a Japanese martial art, similar to wrestling, except that Jiu Jitsu has techniques to be followed, unlike wrestling”, she explains. Just before the championship she underwent rigourous training for last 10 days with Michael Pereira, who is a professional mixed martial arts fighter, in Mumbai, learning from him the special techniques of Jiu Jitsu.

In the championship she had to undergo 8 rounds of the the bout, as there were 250 girls participating, from all-India. What’s more – since she was just 49 kgs, and there were no other girls in that weight category, she had to compete with the girls in the weight category of 55kgs, but she was confident of herself, and didn’t get unnerved by this fact.

And what has been her secret of success? “Hard work, healthy eating and no supplements”, she smiles. She used to workout for three and a half hours everyday, without fail, and her workouts started with yoga, kick-boxing, Moithai (Chinese form of kickboxing with bones), and so on. “My bones are so strong, that even though I am just 49 kgs I can lift boys of 80kgs’, she laughs, revealing that she has always wrestled with boys, as she was taught that if she can beat the boys, then a fight with the girls is always a cakewalk!

Being a fitness freak and into sports and wrestling since childhood, Priti says she has received a lot of support and encouragement from her parents, family and her college, Suryadatta. “What is now needed is financial support from the Government and sports authorities’, she rues.

Says Prof. Dr. Sanjay Chordia, Chairman, Suryadatta Group of Institutes, “Our institute is very proud and happy with Priti Tiwari;s accomplishment, which is not an easy task. At Suryadatta, we not only strive to make our students excel academically, but also stress on their overall personality development and ensure that they take part in a lot of extra-curricular activities. Priti Tiwari will be an inspiration to our other students as well. We wish her lots of success in the Asian Games and hope she makes Suryadatta and India proud of her”.

“At Suryadatta we have learned hardworking ability through series of activities and round the year value addition  and how to achieve our targets through complete dedication and commitment. Our Dean, Prof Dr Sanjay Chordiya and Sushama Madam both of them are role models for all of us and we get a lot of inspiration and continuous motivation from them’, says Priti.
