Pune, 21 April 2020- On the occasion of Earth Day, 22nd April 2020, SWaCH is hosting a virtual screening of The Story of Plastic. PRODUCED BY STORY OF STUFF PROJECT, THE STORY OF PLASTIC takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash, rivers and seas clogged with waste, and skies choked with the poisonous emissions from plastic production and processing. With engaging original animation, archival industry footage beginning in the 1930s, and first-person accounts of the unfolding emergency, the film distills a complex problem that is increasingly affecting the planet’s and its residents’ well-being.

“We invite you to watch this movie safely from your homes. Kindly RSVP your confirmation to get a link for watching this movie! Tomorrow, 22nd April, in the evening we will also hold a panel discussion to reflect on the film and address questions. We would be very grateful if you donate towards COVID-19 relief for the waste pickers of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, who are the real game-changers addressing the Plastics problem. Any donation you make will go towards PPE and dry ration kits to the waste pickers”, said Lakshmi Narayan, SWaCH’s co-founder.
