Talks Between Russia And Ukraine Begin In Gomel, Belarus, Informs Zelensky’s Adviser

Gomel, 28th February 2022: Amid the ongoing tension and war with Russia, the preparation for peace talks between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia are complete.

The meeting can be held at any time after three o’clock in the afternoon Indian time. All countries are watching this meeting.

According to the news agency Tass, Russia’s delegation is led by Vladimir Medinsky, an aide of President Vladimir Putin. He had earlier said that an agreement was reached with Ukraine for talks in the Gomel region of Belarus. The Russian delegation has already reached there.

New Agency Reuters quoted the Ukrainian presidential office as saying that a Ukrainian delegation has reached the Belarusian border to hold talks with Russian representatives.

Michelle Bachelet, Chief of UN human Rights says her office has confirmed that 102 civilians, including 7 children, have been killed and 304 others injured in violence in Ukraine since Thursday. She warned that this figure could rise significantly. She cited updated UN figures that more than 420,000 people have fled the country in the past several days.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolik told Reuters news agency that negotiations on the Belarus border have begun between high-level delegations from Ukraine and Russia. Earlier Ukraine’s presidential office said that Ukraine’s goal for talks is an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.

According to the TAS agency, the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, has said that the Ukrainian delegation was delayed due to some technical problem.

According to him, the talks between the two countries should start around 12:00 local time in Moscow. He has been told that the Ukrainian team will arrive here one hour late.

According to Medinsky, he had been waiting for the Ukrainian team all night. The timing of his arrival changed frequently.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s presidential office says its main goal of talks with Russia is an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops, according to Reuters.
