Tanker Carrying 20,000 Litres of Fuel Catches Fire in Pune, No Casualties Reported
Hadapsar, 10th November 2025: A major accident was averted this morning after a petrol/diesel tanker caught fire at Shewalewadi Chowk in Hadapsar. Thanks to the quick response and alertness of the Pune Fire Brigade, the blaze was brought under control before it could lead to a large-scale explosion.
The incident occurred around 9:20 am, when the fire brigade control room received an emergency call about a tanker engulfed in flames at the busy intersection. Water tankers were immediately dispatched from Hadapsar, Kalepadal, BT Kawade Road, and Kharadi fire stations.
Upon reaching the spot, firefighters found the tanker burning on the road, with its cabin on fire. The tanker was carrying 15,000 litres of diesel and 5,000 litres of petrol and was reportedly on its way to Pune from Loni. The driver managed to escape unharmed after jumping out of the vehicle in panic.
Fire brigade personnel quickly surrounded the tanker and began spraying water from all sides to prevent the flames from reaching the fuel compartments. Their timely and coordinated efforts successfully contained the fire and prevented a potential disaster.
Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode praised the team for their swift response, stating, “The fire brigade vehicles reached the spot on time, and the alertness shown by the personnel prevented major damage. Otherwise, a major accident would have occurred.”
The firefighting operation involved officers Pramod Sonawane and Nilesh Lonkar, along with drivers Narayan Jagtap, Raju Shaikh, Tandel Shaukat Shaikh, and firemen Baba Chavan, Chandrakant Navale, Ramdas Lad, and Avinash Dhakne.
Traffic movement at Shewalewadi Chowk was temporarily disrupted due to the incident but resumed smoothly after the fire was extinguished. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
