Tata Power celebrates 10 years of Club Enerji programme; saved 21 million MUs electricity by sensitising 15 million people across the country

Energy is crucial for the economic growth of any nation. Recognizing this, Tata Power initiated its nationwide conservation movement, Club Enerji, to educate the children on energy and resource conservation and, through them, reach out to the masses to start a chain reaction. As a business, conservation is at the very heart of Tata Power and is its biggest force multiplier. The Company’s core thought behind forming Club Enerji in 2007 was to use the idea of conservation as a vehicle for societal change. Club Enerji movement has sensitised about 4 crore people across 12 cities from FY08 to FY17, resulting in the saving of 21 MUs of electricity.

Club Enerji’s network has grown steadily over the last decade and, today, is present in 500 schools across various- Delhi, Mumbai, Belgaum, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Jamshedpur, Lonavla. Club Enerji also reached out international locations through the launch of Club enerji online module available on its website. Club Enerji is a standing example of how, when businesses have their hearts and minds in the right place, the impact that they can make is tremendous. For the past 10 years, the movement has worked with the biggest agents of change- children and youth, one school at a time, one city at a time.

Club Enerji’s story began in in 2007 in Mumbai with 12 schools .The pilot program demonstrated the various benefits of ‘energy conservation’ to the children, and encouraged them to spread the message further. As the years’ passed and the company evolved, so did this programme. By 2008, the movement scaled to 48 schools of Mumbai and Belgaum, and by 2009, the movement went national from being a solely Mumbai-centric program. In 2011, the program grew to include resource conservation modules and the moral and civic values propagation modules in the program, thereby, widening the scope of Club Enerji. Over the years, the movement also rolled out ‘resource conservation’ and ‘waste management’ modules.

As part of its initiatives, Club Enerji also organises activities for the school students like nature trails and visits to Tata Power Mahseer hatchery in Lonavala to increase awareness on its conservation projects and also provide practical knowledge about the environment. Today, Club Enerji has become a holistic movement to save energy and natural resources. Club Enerji banks on the youth of the nation and has essentially worked towards curbing energy wastage, there by mitigating emission of greenhouse gases that lead to global warming and climate change.

Club Enerji, through its various modules encourages children to be the responsible citizens of the country and shapes them into proactive leaders of the future.
