Pune, 16th April 2026: Allegations of sexual harassment involving women employees at the Nashik centre of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have sparked a major controversy, leading to police action and the arrest of some employees.

Taking serious note of the issue, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has directed the Chief Labour Commissioner to initiate immediate action and submit a detailed report on the incident.

The intervention follows a formal complaint filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), which urged the Labour Ministry to conduct an audit of workplace sexual harassment law implementation within TCS. The union also called for a broader state-level audit of IT and IT-enabled services firms across the country, particularly multinational companies operating in Maharashtra.

According to NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja, the minister has acknowledged the complaint and issued directions for prompt action. Authorities have been asked to investigate the Nashik case and assess compliance with legal provisions before submitting a report.

Saluja further claimed that the incident at TCS is not isolated, alleging that similar cases of workplace harassment are prevalent across the IT sector. He stressed the need for systemic intervention and stricter enforcement of laws to ensure a safe working environment for women employees.

Police have registered offences in connection with the Nashik case and arrested some employees. Further investigation is underway.
