Pune, July 25, 2020: Home Minister Anil Deshmukh today reviewed the law and order situation in the district and instructed to make maximum use of technology to curb crime. He also inquired about the Coronavirus situation and steps being taken by police.

The meeting was held at the Government Rest House. Pune Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham, Jt Commissioner of Police Ravindra Shiswe, Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bachchan Singh, Mitesh Ghatte and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Additional Commissioner Ramnath Pokale and District Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil and other officials were present.

DCP Bachchan Singh gave information about the “ExTra” (Tracking of Externees) app launched by Pune City Police for externed (Tadipar) accused. “ExTra app has been launched to prevent externed persons from re-entering Pune city and committing crimes. It will be convenient to strictly enforce the externment order and monitor the externed criminals. It will reduce the number of cases filed for violation of the externment order, and will help reduce the additional stress on the police investigation system. The police station under whose jurisdiction the offender resides will also be able to effectively monitor him/her,” said DCP Singh.

He further informed that at present 20 externees are under surveillance with the help of the app. “Recently one criminal had violated the externment order and he was sentenced to four months of imprisonment and Rs 500 fine by the court”, he added.

Pune rural SP Sandip Patil informed about “Smart Policing” on the occasion. “The Smart Policing is a concept of the central government. It encompasses all the activities of police including community relations, infrastructure, training, investigation and use of technology, for increasing efficiency of the police. Benchmarks have been given for each criterion. We have been working on it for the last one and half years. This has improved our quality of work and delivery of services to the people”, Patil informed.
