Amidst efforts to capture the Panjshir Valley, the Taliban may announce their new government in Afghanistan today. If reports are to be believed, Taliban co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will head the new Afghan government. According to the report, Mullah Mohammad Yacoub, son of the co-founder of the group, Mullah Omar, and Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai may get senior positions in the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Apart from this, the head of the Taliban, Haibatullah Akhundzada, can get a post like Guardian or Supreme Leader. Mullah Baradar was the head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar.

 

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that the formation of a new government in Afghanistan has been postponed by a day. The announcement regarding the formation of the government was to be made on Friday. Mujahid said the formation of the new government would now be announced on Saturday. A senior Taliban member said the group was ready to announce the formation of a government in Kabul on the lines of the Iranian leadership, with the group’s top religious leader Mullah Hebatullah Akhunzada as the highest authority in Afghanistan. It has been more than two weeks since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

 

Mufti Inamullah Samangani, a senior official in the Taliban’s Information and Cultural Commission, said the consultations on the new government were almost complete and necessary discussions had also been held about the cabinet. In Iran, the supreme leader is the country’s highest political and religious authority. He has a higher status than the President and appoints the heads of the military, government and judiciary. He said Mullah Akhunzada would be the leader of the government and there should be no question on it. He indicated that the President would work under his supervision. Mullah Akhunzada is the Taliban’s top religious leader and has been working in a mosque in the Kachlaq area of ​​Balochistan province for 15 years. Samangani said that under the new government structure, provinces would be headed by governors, while district governors would be responsible for their respective districts.
