New Delhi, 5th May 2022: The Defense Ministry on Wednesday said the pension of 58,275 defence pensioners got delayed this month. After the protest, the central government explained the reason behind this delay. The Defense Ministry said the delay in pension was because the pensioners’ banks could not verify their identity till April 30.

Banks (Previous Pension Disbursing Agency) could not verify the identity of 58,275 pensioners nor were their identities received directly on SPARSH till the end of the month. Therefore, these pensioners were not paid their April pension till April 30, 2022.

The issue regarding the non-payment of pension to the pensioners of the Ministry of Defense for April 2022, the Ministry of Defense issued a written statement saying that these retired personnel do not have to face any problem due to this, so they have been given a one-time special exemption and They have been asked to get their identity verified by May 25.

It said that the pension of these 58,275 people for April will reach their account by Wednesday evening. This statement of the Ministry of Defense has come after this issue was raised in the media.

The ministry said banks are required to verify the identity of retired defence personnel by November every year. However, due to Covid-19 last year, time was given from 30 November 2021 to 31 March 2022 for annual identification.
