By Husein K Chunawala
The rise of the Gujarati Cinema took place 84 years ago. On 9th April 1932, first black and white Gujarati film, “Narsinh Mehta”, was released which was directed by Nanubhai Vakil. The film was about regional and informal type. In the year 1968 the first colour Gujarati film “Liludi Dharti”was released. From there, the colour world of Gujarati cinema started.
Most of the Gujrati films are based on present times and till now they have completed 84 years in the film industry. Gujarati movies are also called as Gollywood or Dhollywood.
Over the years Gujarati cinema makers put in a lot of hard work to be the best in the film industry. More than thousands of movies have been released till date.
In 2005, the Government of Gujarat announced 100% entertainment tax exemption for Gujarati films. These days people, who have never watched Gujarati films before, have started watching it.
Consider me as an example, I am a Gujarati and I never used to watch those films but it has evolved into such a good industry that me and my friends have started watching Gujarati Films now.
Time goes on and the things have changed now. Gujarati cinema has changed peoples’ mind-set.
People get attracted by the improvement of the Gujarati cinema in the film industry.
Gujarati films are good in India as well as all around the world. One of the most famous Gujarati song is “Odhni Odhu ne Udhi Jaav”.
Also, two recent famous movies which rocked the Box-Office, are “Chello Divas” and “Kevi Rite Jaish”.
These films proved the mettle of Gujarati film industry.
