Pune, 19th January 2023: Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr, today, said that 26 cases of Mathadi extortion from businesses and companies have been registered in Pune city in the last five years. To deal with this menace, he will convene a meeting of senior police officers and private companies next week.

Earlier in the morning, he had attended a meeting of industrial units in the Chakan area along with Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Choubey, Inspector General of Police (Kolhapur Range) Sunil Phulari and Pune rural SP Ankit Goyal.

“The meeting in Chakan was held to show that all senior officers are on the same page and the state government is serious about stopping the extortion from businesses. Many companies have offices in Pune city and factories in Chakan, Talegaon, Ranjangaon and other areas. Therefore, we all gathered to meet the officials of various companies. The government wants industries to set up plants in Pune for employment generation and economic prosperity,” Police Commissioner Kumaarr told PunekarNews.in

Kumaarr added, “Many businessmen do not come forward to lodge complaints. So, we will also work out ways to take action against extortionists harassing the business community in the name of Mathadi union.”
