Pune, 14th June 2023: Toyota Motor has announced its plans to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) market by introducing innovations in solid-state batteries and other technologies. The Japanese automaker is focused on enhancing the range, performance, and cost-effectiveness of its upcoming EV lineup, aiming to compete with industry leader Tesla.

Toyota’s strategy includes the development of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, set to debut in 2026, that promise extended range and faster charging capabilities. The company aims to create an EV capable of driving over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge and recharge in a mere 10 minutes. This ambitious target surpasses the current long-range version of Tesla’s Model Y, which provides around 530 kilometers of range according to US standards.

Addressing durability concerns in solid-state batteries, Toyota claims to have achieved a “technological breakthrough” and plans to mass-produce these batteries by 2027. Solid-state batteries have the potential to store more energy than conventional liquid electrolyte batteries, thus significantly increasing the range of EVs. This advancement is expected to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, as acknowledged by industry experts and automakers.
