Traffic Disrupted: Landslide Strikes Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Pune Expressway Temporarily Shut Down
Pune, 24th July 2023: At approximately 10:35 PM tonight, a landslide occurred near Khopoli village, blocking all three lanes of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The incident took place around 41 kilometers from Mumbai on the highway, where a portion of the hillside collapsed onto the road. Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties.
The Indian Roads and Bridges Corporation (IRB) has initiated immediate action to clear the debris with the help of JCBs and dumpers. The work is progressing on a war footing, and it is expected to take about 20 to 25 dumpers to remove the accumulated mud and rocks from the road.
Due to this unfortunate event, traffic on the Mumbai-bound lane has been halted. Authorities from IRB, Borghat Traffic Police, and Khopoli Police Station are on the scene, providing assistance and ensuring the safety of the affected commuters.
Meanwhile, all the vehicles traveling on the Expressway are being diverted to the alternative routes through Khopoli city until the debris is completely cleared.
