Traffic Diversions Announced by Pune Police for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Birth Anniversary
Pune, 18th February 2025: Various programs have been organized for tomorrow’s birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Shiv Jayanti). These events, which are expected to attract large crowds, will also result in heavy traffic. To manage this, the Pune Police Traffic Branch has announced several traffic changes throughout the city. Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende, in charge of the Traffic Branch, has urged citizens to cooperate. Below are the key events and corresponding traffic changes:
1) Jay Shivaji Jay Bharat Foot March
Organized by the Union Government’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, this foot march will start from the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Sports Ground and follow the route: SG Barve Chowk – Modern Chowk – Jhansi Rani Chowk (with a halt) – Khanduji Baba Chowk – Good Luck Chowk – Fergusson College Ground. Traffic changes will be in effect from 7 AM to 2 PM, as follows:
– Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Jangali Maharaj Road from Sancheti Hospital Chowk to Khanduji Baba Chowk. The alternate route is for vehicles to take a left from COEP Chowk towards Kamgar Statue – Nehr Road and then proceed via MG Road to their destination. Vehicles heading towards Baner, Pashan, Kothrud, and Karve Road should turn right at Simla Office Chowk, continue along Senapati Bapat Road (SB Road), and proceed to their destination.
– Vehicles will not be allowed from Khanduji Baba Chowk to Fergusson College Gate to Veer Chaphekar Chowk on FC Road. Alternate routes for vehicles coming from Kothrud and Karve Road are via Law College Road from SNDT Corner and then either via SB Road or Nal Stop to their destination.
– Vehicles will not be allowed to go from Tilak Road to Khanduji Baba Chowk. The alternate route is via Alka Talkies Chowk to Shastri Road, Sena Datta Chowk, Bal Shivaji Chowk, Nal Stop, and then to the destination.
– Vehicles will not be allowed from NC Kelkar Road to Z Bridge and towards Deccan. Alternate routes include Garud Ganpati Chowk – Tilak Chowk – Shastri Road to the desired destination.
– Vehicles will not be allowed from Bhide Bridge to Deccan. Alternate routes include Z Bridge – Garud Ganpati Chowk – Tilak Chowk – Shastri Road to the destination.
Parking Plans:
1) Vehicles coming from Khadki, Yerawada, and Mangalwar Peth (except students) should park on the right side of COEP Chowk.
2) Vehicles coming from Karve Road and Kothrud should take a left from Alka Talkies Chowk and park along the riverbed. VIPs/Organizers/Officials should park at Fergusson College Ground.
3) Vehicles coming from Swargate, Hadapsar, and Dandekar Bridge should proceed to Alka Talkies via Sena Datta Chowk, take a right, and park along the riverbed.
4) Vehicles coming from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Baner, and Pashan should take a U-turn from Simla Office Chowk and park at the College of Agriculture, Pune.
2) Main Procession of Shiv Jayanti
Starting at 6 AM tomorrow, and continuing until the crowd disperses, traffic changes will be implemented on Laxmi Road, Shivaji Road, and Bajirao Road as follows:
Changes and alternate routes after the Jay Bharat Jay Shivaji Foot March ends:
– Vehictravellingling from Jijamata Chowk to Shivaji Road towards Swargate should take SG Barve Chowk – JM Road – Khanduji Baba Chowk – Tilak Chowk – Tilak Road to reach their destination.
– Vehicles heading from SG Barve Chowthe k to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Building should take JM Road, turn left at Jhansi Rani Chowk, and proceed to their destination.
– Vehitravellingeling from Kumbhar Ves to Gadgil Statue should take a right at Kumbhar Ves Chowk – Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Office – Khude Chowk – Savarkar Chowk to reach their destination.
– Vehicles coming from Puram Chowk via Bajirao Road heading to Shivajinagar should go via Tilak Road – Alka Talkies Chowk – FC Road to their destination.
Traffic changes unrelated to the Foot March:
– Vehitravellingeling from Ganesh Road – Daruwala Bridge towards Phadke Haud Chowk – Jijamata Chowk should continue to their destination via Daruwala Bridge.
– Traffic will be fully closed from NC Kelkar Road via Appa Balwant Chowk to Jogeshwari Chowk and Budhwar Chowk.
– While the procession is ongoing on Laxmi Road and until it passes Sonya Maruti Chowk, vehicles on Laxmi Road will be diverted via Sant Kabir Chowk as needed.
– After the procession passes, vehicles should avoid travelling to Phutka Buruj via Appa Balwant Chowk – Budhwar Chowk – Bajirao Road. Instead, they should proceed to their destination via NC Kelkar Road, avoiding Seva Sadan Chowk to Appa Balwant Chowk, and should go via Laxmi Road.
– Until the procession passes Gadgil Statue, vehicles will not be allowed from Savarkar Bhavan Bridge towards Balgandharva Theatre (JM Road).
– Until the procession passes Gadgil Statue, vehicles will not be allowed to go to Shaniwarwada. Instead, they should proceed towards Cosmos Bank Junction – Savarkar Bhavan Bridge to Balgandharva Theatre – Tilak Bridge, then to either the PMC Building or Takle Haveli Chowk to reach their destination.
