Pune, 16th March 2023: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch) Vijaykumar Magar has ordered the suspension of Police Naik Anil Kallappa Jamge, a traffic policeman in the Faraskhana traffic division, for stopping drivers instead of managing traffic.

Jamge was regulating traffic at Hutatma Chowk (Budhwar Chowk) on Shivaji Road during the Sankashti Chaturthi festival on March 11th. He stopped a two-wheeler with an out-of-town number plate and demanded the driver’s license. Upon discovering that the driver did not have a license, Jamge asked him to pay a fine of Rs 5,000. When he found that the two-wheeler was registered in someone else’s name, he demanded a fine of Rs 10,000 from the driver. As the driver did not have a debit card, he was unable to pay the fine online. Consequently, Jamge removed the name plate from his uniform and seized the driver’s bike.

The driver complained about the incident to senior officials in the traffic branch, prompting DCP Magar to order Jamge’s suspension. Magar has also directed traffic police to use body cameras while taking action against drivers who violate the rules, but Jamge did not use one while conducting his operation.

On March 11th, Shivaji Road was crowded with devotees who had congregated for the Sankashti Chaturthi festival. Despite this, Jamge stopped the driver and spent an inordinate amount of time discussing the matter instead of regulating traffic. DCP Magar ordered Jamge’s suspension after an investigation revealed that his behavior was irresponsible.
