Train Mahotsav for Deccan Queen to Be Celebrated at CSMT on March 27
Pune/Mumbai, 26th March 2026: The Mumbai Division of Central Railway will celebrate Train Mahotsav for the iconic Deccan Queen Express at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on March 27, 2026. The celebrations will take place before the departure of Train No. 12123 from Mumbai.
According to railway officials, the programme will begin one hour before the train’s scheduled departure at 17:10 hrs from CSMT. The train will be decorated with floral arrangements, and audio-visual presentations highlighting the history and legacy of the Deccan Queen will be showcased during the event.
As part of the Train Mahotsav, several refurbishment and upgrade works have been carried out on the train to improve passenger amenities. The dining car has been refurbished with heritage-themed interiors, including renovated furniture, ceiling and flooring. Lavatories have been upgraded with vinyl flooring, duro wipe mats, and soap and tissue dispensers to improve hygiene standards. AC coaches have received new seat covers, vinyl flooring has been provided in doorway areas, roof and panel boards have been redesigned with new themes, and air fragrance dispensers have been installed in coaches.
The Deccan Queen, introduced on June 1, 1930, operates between Mumbai and Pune and is considered one of the historic trains of Indian Railways. It was among the early superfast trains in the country and one of the first long-distance electric hauled passenger trains. The train also introduced features such as vestibule coaches, a dining car and a ladies-only coach. Over the years, the train has been upgraded from vacuum brake stock to modern LHB coaches.
The Train Mahotsav programme will be organised at CSMT ahead of the train’s departure, marking the heritage and long service history of the Deccan Queen on the Mumbai–Pune route.
