Truck Plunges 200 Feet Into Valley at Katraj Ghat, Driver Rescued by Pune Fire Brigade

Pune, 24th April 2025: A truck accident occurred near the old tunnel area of Katraj Ghat around 4 PM on April 24, when an Ashok Leyland truck plunged approximately 200 feet into a deep valley. The Pune Fire Brigade received the alert and immediately dispatched a fire engine from Katraj and a rescue van from the Pune Fire Brigade headquarters to the site.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the injured truck driver trapped inside the vehicle. Using ropes and safety belts, the rescue team communicated with the driver to calm him before safely extracting him from the wreckage. The injured driver was then transported to a hospital by the government ambulance service (108) for urgent medical care.

The truck was travelling from Pune to Satara at the time of the accident. The injured driver has been identified as Vikas Rasal, 32, a resident of Latur, who was driving vehicle number MH 12 KP 1073.

The rescue operation involved Fire Officer Pradeep Khedekar; firefighters Vasant Bhilare, Vijay Gosavi; drivers Bandu Gogawale and Ubed Shaikh; and team members Kiran Patil, Akshay Devkar, Mayur Kate, Prashant Kumbhar, Ketan Bhoir, Mangesh Khandale, Akshay Shinde, Kishor Takle, and Anwar Shaikh.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
