Two Days Training Cum Interactive Session On Wholesale Price Index Organized In Pune

Pune, 9th October 2021: Two days training cum interactive session on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on existing series (base year 2011-12) and new series (base year 2017-18) is being organized by National Statistical Office, Field Operations Division, Regional Office, Pune on 7th and 8th October 2021. The training cum interactive session was inaugurated by Alok Kumar, Director, National Statistical Office, Field Operations Division, Regional Office, Pune.

Abu Huzaifa, Deputy Director, Office of Economic Advisor, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry imparted the training. Shirke Shrinivas Vijay, Deputy Director, National Statistical Office, Field Operations Division, Regional Office, Pune was also present. Around 60 officials from Regional Offices of Raipur, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Pune are participating in this training. 

Detailed discussion on concepts and definitions of Wholesale Price Index, data collection and specification guidelines along with demonstration of online WPI portal and queries pertaining to field work will be done during the said training. The training assume importance as WPI is one of the major macroeconomic indicator used by Government and private organizations and policy makers and the exercise to revise the base year of WPI from 2011-12 to 2017-18 has been initiated by Office of Economic Adviser, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
