Two Deaths were Reported In Karnataka And Haryana Due To H3N2 Influenza Virus

New Delhi, 10th March 2023: According to authorities, the Union Health Ministry has recorded two H3N2 virus-related influenza deaths, one in Haryana and the other in Karnataka. In India, there have been about 90 cases of the H3N2 virus and eight cases of the H1N1 virus.
The number of flu cases has been increasing in the nation over the past few months, and many are worried since the symptoms are identical to those of Covid-19. In India, the H3N2 virus sometimes referred to as the “Hong Kong flu,” is the influenza subtype that leads to the most hospitalizations.
The H3N2 and H1N1 viruses can cause a variety of symptoms that can last up to a week, including a persistent cough, fever, chills, dyspnea, and wheezing as well as nausea, sore throats, body pains, and diarrhea. Coughing, sneezing, and close contact with an infected individual are the main ways that the virus is transmitted and is very contagious.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has advised implementing precautions similar to those advised by Covid, including frequent handwashing, wearing a mask while coughing and sneezing, avoiding touching the eyes and nose, drinking enough fluids, and taking paracetamol for fever and body pains.
For high-risk groups, including older adults, younger children, and persons with compromised immune systems as a result of ongoing medical conditions, the infection can be severe, according to doctors. In light of the potential development of antibiotic resistance, the Indian Medical Association recently advised physicians against prescribing antibiotics to patients before determining whether the infection is bacterial.
