New Delhi, 2nd June 2025: With Aadhaar becoming a vital identity document for both personal and official use in India, misplacing the card or forgetting the Aadhaar number can be a worrying situation. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it possible for individuals to retrieve their Aadhaar number easily, provided their mobile number is linked to their Aadhaar profile.
Aadhaar Can Be Retrieved Without the Number
UIDAI offers a secure and user-friendly process for recovering lost Aadhaar details. If your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar, you can retrieve your Aadhaar number either online, through a phone call, or via an IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System).
Step-by-Step Guide to Recover Aadhaar Number
Option 1: Call UIDAI Helpline
Dial UIDAI’s toll-free helpline at 1947.
Provide basic identification details such as your name, address, and date of birth.
You will be issued an EID (Enrolment ID) number.
Use this EID to retrieve your Aadhaar number via IVRS or the official UIDAI website.
Option 2: Retrieve Aadhaar Online via UIDAI Website
Visit the official UIDAI website.
Click on the ‘Retrieve UID/EID’ option.
Select whether you wish to recover your Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID.
Enter your name, registered mobile number, and the CAPTCHA code.
Enter the OTP sent to your mobile phone.
Once verified, your Aadhaar number will be sent to you via SMS.
Option 3: Use IVRS (Phone-based Retrieval)
Call 1947 and follow the IVRS instructions.
Provide your name, date of birth, address, and EID.
Your Aadhaar number will be read out or sent via SMS during the call.
Important Reminder
These methods only work if your Aadhaar is linked to a valid mobile number. If your mobile number is not registered or needs updating, you must visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment center to update your contact information in the UIDAI database.
