According to police, Asim completed his studies in the United States of America (USA) and worked there for four years. After he lost his job in 2019, he came back to India. His parents had been pressurising him to get a job abroad but he was not ready to a foreign country again.

He entered the airport when his parents went to see off on December 9 evening and then tried to sneak out but was caught by the CISF staff. The incident took place between 4.28 pm to 7.20 pm.

After his ticket and visa document were found to be fake, CISF handed him over to Pune police. Asim has been charged for offences under sections 420, 465, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

During questioning, Asim clarified that he did not intend to cheat the government as he only wanted to satisfy the demands of his parents.
